Guthrie Trapp is an award-winning mandolin and guitar player, born in Pensacola, Florida, February 3, 1979. He grew up in Lillian, Alabama, a small town overlooking Perdido Bay, and grew up on the Florida/Alabama Gulf coast. His family had a great love for music and Guthrie was exposed to many genres from a young age. Guthrie's family had a great passion for music, though only one member, his Uncle Jerry, was a musician. "I grew up listening to everything from Taj Mahal to Tony Rice, Jean Luc Ponty to the Allman Brothers, Van Morrison and Bob Dylan to Sam Bush and Bela Fleck." His father, Joe, promoted the New Grass Revival in the Pensacola area, having a huge impact on young Guthrie.
Guthrie started playing blues harmonica at age 7 with his Uncle Jerry; at age ten, he moved on to guitar, with mandolin following soon after. At 13 he joined a local bluegrass group playing lead guitar and mandolin. They played local and regional festivals and clubs up and down the Gulf coast.

At 15 and 16 GuthrieTrappwon the Alabama Guitar and Mandolin Competitions two years in a row. Also at 16, he accompanied folk legend Tom Paxton and opened for John McCutchen withUncle Jerry Trapp. Guthrie started playing with Gove Scrivenor in 1995. They played for several years together doing club dates college concerts and opened for such acts as Richie Havens and Al Stewart.
In 1997 Guthrie did his first master session in Nashville on Gove's "Shine On" album, finding himself in the company of John Prine, Nanci Griffith,Lari White and Ray Flacke. That same year Guthrie joined with Nick Branch to form the Filthy Rich Band, ruling the Gulf coast for years, with original music and blues, swing and roots covers. They headlined festivals and clubs regionally and overseas.
At age 22 Guthrie moved to Nashville and soon began playing with the Don Kelley Band at Roberts Western Wear on Broadway. He took a job with Patty Loveless, playing in her band for two years. This landed him in the studio on two of Patti's records, one of which was nominated for a Grammy award. Guthrie Trapp joined the Jerry Douglas Band in Spring, 2006. Touring with Jerry for three years, Guthrie lent his talents in the studio on two of Jerry's records. "Glide" was nominated for a Grammy in 2008. The Jerry Douglas Band supported Paul Simon for a three month tour. The JDB have toured extensively throughout the US, Canada and the United Kingdom. Headlining such venues as the New York City's illustrious Blue Note, the Monteal Jazz Fest and Radio City Music Hall in Rockefeller Plaza.
Currently living in Nashville, Guthrie has established himself as an in demand performer and session musician. Recent collaborators include Vince Gill, Nanci Griffith, Jessi Alexander andGarth Brooks . Guthrie has also worked with Alison Krauss, Kenny Vaughn, Albert Lee, Mark Winchester, the late Vassar Clements,engineer Bil Vorndick, Roberto Bianco, and many others.He continues to write, record, perform and offer instruction on mandolin, acoustic and electric guitars.
